Chromating (also known as chemical conversion coating or Alodine treatment) creates a thin, protective chromate film on aluminium surfaces. This process is widely used as a pre-treatment before painting or powder coating because it dramatically improves paint adhesion and provides a baseline layer of corrosion resistance. It is also used as a standalone finish where lightweight protection is sufficient.
